Twitter now lets you add photos, videos and GIFs to retweets

According a report generated last week, Twitter users can now add images, videos, and GIFs to their retweets.

The social media giant has rolled out this new feature for Android, iOS, and Twitter’s mobile website however it’s not on desktop as of now. To add media to retweet users simply need to tap the “retweet with comment” option and select the image or GIF icon in the toolbar.

As shared by the social media company, the development process of this feature wasn’t very easy. On the contrary, it was unexpectedly complex and required collaboration between multiple teams.

“Teamwork and collaboration are a huge part of Twitter’s engineering culture. A project like this brought together and saw contributions from multiple teams across Twitter Eng.”

As per the company, the development of this new feature involved multiple teams because it affected two different sections that were the tweet detail page and timelines.

Though it’s not a very big change to the service, still according to Twitter designing it in a way that made sense was a bit difficult and that when they actually viewed in timeline it wasn’t very overwhelming.

“We found it was challenging for people to quickly understand all the content in a Retweet with media. This was due to the layout; two large tweets stacked on top of each other.”

However, to find a resolution to it, the original tweet has been put in a smaller, indented box (with the user’s avatar still visible) and the users own media is made full width.

As revealed by Twitter the ability to retweet with a GIF was one of the most recurrent requests by the users and that the announcement of this feature has made the Twitter users to emphasize their demands for an edit button now.
