Facebook is rolling out a new feature called “Why am I seeing this post” that will help the users in understanding and controlling the posts that get surfaced on their News Feed from friends, Pages and Groups.
“This means you’ll be able to tap on posts and ads in News Feed, get context on why they’re appearing and take action to further personalise what you see,” Ramya Sethuraman, Product Manager, Facebook wrote in a blog post on Sunday.
At the same time the new feature will also tell the users about how their previous activity on the Facebook has led its algorithms to show contain from certain people, groups and organizations.
The new button titled “Why am I seeing this post” will be visible to all users by the 2nd of May this year allowing users to have more control over what they see from friends, pages and groups.
After the scandals that happen about the social networking giant on wrongly using user-information for ad targeting, the feature can be taken as Facebook’s initiative to explain users about how exactly the News Feed gets personalized on the platform.
“This is the first time that we’ve built information on how ranking works directly into the app,” Sethuraman said.
Not just that, the social media company is also working for the improvement of its “Why am I seeing this ad” feature that it launched in 2014.
“We’ve received valuable feedback over the years that has helped us expand the information we share with people about the ads they see,” Sethuraman added.
“Both of the updates are part of our ongoing investment in giving people more context and control across Facebook,” the post noted.
With these additions and alterations, Facebook tries to make it even easier and better for people to arrange their News Feed as they want.
